Before the big day arrives, we encourage all graduates to read through this guide. It includes everything you need to know to feel confident, prepared, and ready to enjoy a smooth and celebratory experience.
Commencement Day Guide for Grads
Before the Ceremony
- Steam your gown or hang it in the bathroom during a hot shower to remove wrinkles.
- Wear your cap flat and level (no 3D decorations permitted.) The tassel goes on the right until you’re told to move it to the left at the end of the ceremony.
- Free parking is available in MSU Lot #25 and Bear Park North.
- Bring only your name card (given to you at ceremony check-in) and a phone on silent. Leave bags and other personal items with a friend or family member.
- Arrive at Hammons Student Center east doors 90 minutes before the ceremony begins, and no later than 30 minutes before. – Get directions to the arena.
- Check in to receive your name card and take optional professional photos.
- Want to sit near a friend? Plan to line up directly in front of or behind them.
- You will be guided by Ozarks Tech Staff during the processional to Great Southern Bank Arena, where guests arrive.
During the ceremony
- The ceremony will last about an hour and grads are not permitted to leave early.
- Keep phones silent and out of sight.
- When your row is called, hand your name card to the reader and say your name clearly.
- Another professional photo will be taken when you receive your diploma cover.
- Move your tassel to the left at the end of the ceremony to signify graduation.
- Ushers will dismiss graduates by row.
After the ceremony
- Take part in the Ozarks Tech Clap Out tradition with your instructors as you exit the building.
- Exit on the northeast side of Great Southern Bank Arena.
- You’ll meet your guests outside, so pick a spot ahead of time.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is not available at Great Southern Bank Arena unless you have a Missouri State University account and password.
