Course Load
Students should consider their course load when planning their semester. Below are some classification terms you will need to know:
- Full-Time: A student enrolled for 12 or more credit hours in a fall or spring.
- Three-Quarters Time: A student enrolled in 9 – 11 credit hours in fall or spring.
- Half-Time: A student enrolled in 6-8 credit hours in fall or spring.
- Part-Time: Any student enrolled for fewer than 12 credit hours in fall or spring.
Typically, an “average” course load for a student during the fall and spring terms is 15 credit hours and 6 credit hours during the summer.
Overload
Students should not take more than the maximum hours allowed each semester:
- 21 credit hours for 16-week terms during spring and fall semesters
- 10 credit hours for 8-week terms during spring and fall semesters
- 10 credit hours during summer semesters
Obtaining Overload Permission
Students may not exceed these maximums unless they have received permission for an overload from a college navigator. The student must complete a time management plan and is expected to have carried a minimum of 12 credit hours of college-level courses during the previous semester and earned a semester GPA of at least 3.0 or higher.
If the College Navigator approves the overload permissions, then they will inform the Registrar’s Office, who will apply the overload permissions.
