Everyone has the right to learn in a safe and respectful environment.
Title IX is a federal law that protects you from discrimination or harassment based on sex —including sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, or pregnancy-related discrimination. There are also federal, state, and local laws that prevent discrimination or harassment on the basis of other protected categories including race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age, disability, citizenship status or legal immigration status, veteran status, or genetic information. At Ozarks Tech, you have the right to learn and participate in college life free from these behaviors.
Ozarks Tech offers support and services to students experiencing unwanted behaviors through the Title IX Office, Dean of Students Office, Safety & Security, Access and Accommodation Services, and Counseling Services. You can also find an updated campus map with information on accessibility, gender neutral/family restrooms, and lactation rooms here.
Your rights and protections
You are protected under Title IX and other Civil Rights laws if you experience or witness:
- Sexual harassment or sexual assault
- Dating or domestic violence
- Stalking
- Discrimination or harassment on the basis of any protected class
- Pregnancy-related discrimination
If you’re not sure whether something counts as discrimination or harassment, go ahead and file a report. A trained member of the Title IX team will contact you to talk through what happened and explain your options. There is no deadline but it’s best to report as soon as possible.
You’re also able to make a report on behalf of someone else if you witnessed an event or are concerned about their safety.
What happens when I submit a report?
Someone from the Title IX team will reach out as soon as possible to listen and discuss next steps.
You can decide whether you want to file a formal complaint, request supportive measures, or simply talk through what happened.
You may bring a support person or advisor to any meeting or interview.
Only people who need to know about the situation will be involved.
It’s against Ozarks Tech policy to retaliate against anyone who reports or helps with a Title IX concern.
You may withdraw a report at any time. However, if there is a campus-wide safety risk, the college may still need to investigate while keeping your privacy protected.
