Red Alert – Active Threat Response

In an active threat situation, you may need to run, hide, fight, or use a combination of all three.

These actions are not always used in order. Trust your instincts and act quickly to protect yourself and others.

If There Is an Active Threat

Run. Hide. Fight.

Run: Get Away Fast

If you can safely leave the area, run.

  • If you can leave safely, do it quickly.
  • Look for the closest way out
  • Leave your belongings behind.
  • Keep your hands visible
  • Call 911 when it is safe to do so.

Hide: Stay Out of Sight

  • If you can’t run, find a hiding spot.
  • Stay out of sight.
  • Stay quiet and silent your phone.
  • Lock, block and barricade doors if possible.

Fight: Protect Yourself

  • As a last resort, defend yourself.
  • Use whatever you have.
  • Be loud and fast.
  • Work together with others.
  • Call 911 when it is safe to do so.
