Use your VA education benefits to pay for school and choose a program that fits you. Learn how to apply, manage your benefits, and stay certified while you study.
Veterans Affairs Benefit Information
MGIB-SR helps Selected Reserve members pay for college or job training. You can receive up to 36 months of payments from the VA. Use them for tuition, fees, and other approved education costs at Ozarks Tech.
What you get
- Up to 36 months of education benefits paid to you.
- The VA sets payment rates; check current rates at VA.gov.
You qualify if:
- You serve in the Selected Reserve (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Army/Air National Guard).
- You signed a six-year obligation after June 30, 1985.
- You completed Initial Active Duty for Training (IADT).
- You earned a high school diploma or GED before finishing IADT.
- You remain in good standing with your drilling unit.
How you apply
- Apply for MGIB-SR at VA.gov.
- After approval, submit your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to Ozarks Tech.
- After you register each term, request Enrollment Certification.
MGIB-AD helps Veterans who served on active duty pay for school or training. You receive up to 36 months of monthly VA payments and then pay tuition and fees to Ozarks Tech.
What you get
- Up to 36 months of monthly payments sent to you.
- The VA sets payment rates; check current rates at VA.gov.
You qualify if:
- You paid $100 per month for your first 12 months of active duty, or meet another VA-approved path.
- You earned a high school diploma or GED before you apply.
- You served at least two years on active duty.
- You received an Honorable discharge.
How you apply
- Apply for MGIB-AD at VA.gov.
- After approval, submit your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to Ozarks Tech.
- After you register each term, request Enrollment Certification.

VR&E supports Veterans with service-connected disabilities so you can prepare for, find, and keep a job. A VA counselor builds your plan and may cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, and needed services at Ozarks Tech.
What you get
- Tuition and fees paid based on your approved plan.
- Required books and supplies.
- Other supports your counselor authorizes.
You qualify if:
You are a veteran with a service-connected disability and an employment handicap, as determined by a VR&E Counselor.
How you apply
- Meet with a VR&E Counselor to build your plan (Missouri regional: 314-253-4100).
- Ask your counselor to send authorization to Ozarks Tech.
- Follow your counselor’s directions for certification each term.
- After you register each term, request Enrollment Certification.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill pays tuition and fees to Ozarks Tech and may provide a housing allowance and a book stipend. Your percentage depends on your qualifying service.
What you get
- Tuition and fees paid to Ozarks Tech, at a percentage based on your service.
- Monthly housing allowance (BAH) based on our location. Take at least one in-person class to receive the local housing rate.
- Annual book stipend up to $1,000 (about $41.67 per credit hour).
You qualify if:
- You served at least 90 total days of active duty on or after September 11, 2001; or
- You received a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge; or
- You served 30 continuous days and were discharged for a service-connected disability; or
- You are a spouse or child with transferred benefits.
How you apply
- Apply for the Post-9/11 GI Bill at VA.gov.
- After approval, submit your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to Ozarks Tech.
- After you register each term, request Enrollment Certification.
You must enroll more than half-time to receive housing payments.

Transfer of Education Benefit (TEB)
Some Service members can transfer unused Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to a spouse or child. You must request the transfer through the Department of Defense, then the VA processes it. Check VA.gov for who can transfer and how to apply.
DEA provides monthly payments to eligible spouses and children of certain Service members and Veterans. Use these payments for approved education and training costs at Ozarks Tech during the VA-authorized time.
What you get
- A monthly education payment for up to the VA-authorized time.
- The VA sets rates; check current DEA payment amounts at VA.gov.
You qualify if:
You are a spouse or child of a Service member or Veteran who:
- Has a permanent and total service-connected disability, or
- Died on active duty or from a service-connected disability, or
- Is missing in action, captured, or detained, or
- Meets certain treatment-related conditions.
How you apply
- Apply using VA Form 22-5490 at VA.gov online or by paper.
- After approval, submit your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to Ozarks Tech.
- After you register each term, request Enrollment Certification.

Submit your Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
After the VA approves your benefit, send your Certificate of Eligibility to [email protected].
A COE is the letter from the VA that shows your benefit and eligibility. Keep a copy of this for your records.

Each term you register, request enrollment certification so the VA can process your benefit.

- Verify attendance each month using one of the methods listed on the Veterans Affairs Verify Your School Enrollment (Opens in new tab) page.
- Take classes that apply to your program and report schedule changes to the Ozarks Tech VA School Certifying Official.
Chapter 31
- Coordinate any schedule changes with your counselor and Ozarks Tech before you adjust your classes.
- Follow your approved plan and maintain good academic standing.
