When and how you will receive eligible financial aid refunds.
Fall 2025 financial aid refunds will begin in mid-September and will then continue on a weekly basis throughout the fall semester.
Financial aid refunds happen after your aid is applied to your student account. Aid first pays for tuition, fees, and bookstore charges. If money is left over, that balance is refunded to you through your OTC SmartCard refund preference.
How Refunds Work
A refund is issued only after these steps are complete:
- Your financial aid file is processed and eligibility is verified
- Enrollment and class attendance are confirmed
- Funds are received from the grant, scholarship, or loan source
- Charges are subtracted from your account to determine eligible refund amounts due
- Refunds are deposited to your SmartCard refund preference
Timeline for Refunds
If your aid application and all required documents are submitted before the semester deadline, you can usually expect your refund about four weeks after classes begin. Applying after the deadline may still qualify you for aid, but it will delay your refund.
Attendance and Eligibility
To keep financial aid, you must attend class and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards. Instructors may drop you if you do not attend, and you may not receive aid for dropped classes. Aid is based on actual enrollment and attendance.
Viewing Your Refund Status
Financial aid is posted directly to your student account in myOTC. It first covers your tuition, fees, and bookstore charges. Any remaining balance is reviewed for refund.
Remember: funds are not considered “paid” until they show as transmitted to your student account. You can check your financial aid status in your myOTC Student Accounts dashboard.
Receiving Your Refund
Once your account is reviewed, any eligible refund is deposited according to your OTC SmartCard refund preference. This step only happens if you have an active refund preference set up.
Most students receive their first refund deposit about four weeks after the start of the semester.
