Credit for Prior Learning
Apply your real-world experience toward your Ozarks Tech degree.
If you’ve gained knowledge through work, military service, or professional training, Ozarks Tech may award prior learning credit for what you already know. Several options exist for evaluating experience and standardized exams to help you earn college credit faster.
Ways to receive credit for your experience
-
If you’ve taken a College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam, you may receive credit for qualifying scores. CLEP allows you to test out of introductory college courses.
-
DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) are accepted for some general education and elective requirements. Credit is awarded based on qualifying exam scores.
-
Ozarks Tech evaluates Joint Services Transcripts (JST) and Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcripts to determine if military coursework or training meets degree requirements.
-
Credit may be granted for employer or industry training programs reviewed by the American Council on Education. Submit official ACE transcripts for evaluation.
-
In some subjects, you can demonstrate your knowledge through a locally developed exam. Departmental exams let you test out of specific Ozarks Tech courses if you meet the required score.
Professional Credit
If your experience doesn’t fit one of the categories above—such as professional certifications, on-the-job training, or self-directed learning—you may qualify for Professional Credit through a portfolio or assessment process.

Each type of experience-based credit has its own documentation and review process. Review the linked pages for instructions on how to submit transcripts, exam scores, or portfolios for evaluation.
