Ozarks Tech Distinguished Alumni are individuals whose achievements reflect professional excellence, leadership and a commitment to service. Their stories show how education can help shape purpose and positively impact communities.
Erica Gaynor began her college education at Ozarks Tech, a decision she credits with laying the foundation for her success. Raised in Buffalo, Missouri, Gaynor participated in the A+ Program and earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Ozarks Tech in 2002.
Growing up in a rural community, Gaynor couldn’t envision herself heading straight to a four-year university right after high school. Ozarks Tech provided a welcoming space where she gradually found her footing. “Without the encouragement and support I felt at Ozarks Tech, my life and career path wouldn’t be what they are today,” Gaynor said.
She recalls one instructor whose determination to continue teaching while recovering from cancer inspired Gaynor with a powerful example of resilience.
Gaynor went on to attend Missouri State University and built a successful career in insurance and employee benefits. She is now a Group Benefits Advisor and Account Executive with Ollis/Akers/Arney Insurance and Business Advisors in Springfield, where she has worked for more than 20 years.
Gaynor provides strategic guidance on benefits design, healthcare costs, and retention, developing long-term, customized plans tailored to each organization’s needs. She works with corporate clients to attract and retain top talent in an increasingly competitive workforce, while also connecting directly with employees to enhance engagement and understanding. Through her work, she has helped organizations of all sizes implement tailored insurance solutions that strengthen employee value and drive long-term success.
Her work has earned recognition at both the local and national level, including Springfield Business Journal’s Trusted Advisor and 40 Under 40 honors, as well as national recognition as one of Employee Benefit Advisor’s Top Women in Benefits Advising.
Gaynor remains closely connected to the community through volunteer service and nonprofit leadership, including involvement with Ozarks Tech Middle College and Junior League of Springfield. Her advice to graduates reflects her own path: never give up.
“Keep going, even when it’s hard,” she said. “Balancing school, work, and life isn’t easy, but it builds perseverance for the challenges ahead in life.”
