Use a name that reflects your identity at Ozarks Tech. Your preferred (chosen) first name can appear in many college systems and records, even if it’s different from your legal name.

A preferred first name does not replace your legal name on official records, but it allows you to be addressed in class, online, and in other campus systems in the way you prefer.

How to Add a Preferred (Chosen) First Name

You can provide your preferred first name through one of these methods:

Ozarks Tech may deny or remove a preferred name at any time if it is inappropriate, misleading, or used to avoid legal obligations.

Legal Name vs. Preferred First Name

Your legal name remains your official name on all educational records. It is required for financial aid, tax forms, and other legal documents.

To update your legal name, submit a Change of Student Information Form to the Registrar’s office.

Privacy and FERPA

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), your name — including your preferred first name — may be disclosed as directory information unless you opt out.
