Alpha Psi Tau – Phi Theta Kappa


Mission Statement


The purpose of Alpha Psi Tau chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at Ozarks Technical Community College shall be to provide recognition for academic excellence and opportunities for all college students to grow as scholars and leaders as early as possible during their pursuit of a college degree or credential. The Alpha Psi Tau chapter of PTK exists as a student organization within the OTC system and operates under the confines, constraints, and oversight of student organization rules/requirements/policies/procedures/personnel of the college.

Duties:

  • Preside over all business meetings.
  • Appoint and establish any necessary committees and appoint the chairperson for each committee, with advisor approval.
  • Vote on Alpha Psi Tau chapter business in the event of a tie.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member on all committees.
  • Present business to the chapter.
  • Positively represent the College/Chapter/Society.
  • Stay updated on all chapter, College, and Society projects related to PTK and their progress.
  • Provide communication to officers, advisor(s), College administration, and PTK personnel as needed.
  • Coordinate the efforts of the chapter officer/leadership team.
  • Work with chapter advisor to ensure successful reporting of new chapter officers, as needed for Two Star Level chapter recognition.
  • Coordinates the successful completion/submission of chapter Hallmark entries related to outstanding alumni, administrators, and officers, with approval by the chapter advisor, as needed for Five Star Level chapter recognition.
  • Coordinate efforts to ensure Alpha Psi Tau earns 5 Star PTK chapter status.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Update online/virtual channels regularly with recent business, Phi Theta Kappa resource links, and communication.
  • Maintain a social media presence to promote the chapter and notify members of events, meetings, etc.
  • Work alongside Honors Office staff to collaborate and further communication via all available virtual channels.
  • Assist advisor with membership recruitment as requested by the chapter advisor, and needed to attain One Star Level chapter recognition.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Preside over all duties toward the completion of the chapter’s Honors in Action project.
  • Ensure completion and submission of a quality Hallmark entry for the chapter’s Honors in Action project, as needed for Five Star Level chapter recognition.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Preside over all duties, including implementation, toward the completion of the chapter’s College Project.
  • Ensure completion and submission of a quality Hallmark entry for the chapter’s College Project, as needed for Four Star Level chapter recognition.
  • Serve as lead chapter officer in the event of the chapter President’s absence from a meeting or other event.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Seek out and coordinate community and college service opportunities for chapter members.
  • Work with OTC faculty/staff/administration, especially the chapter advisor, to decide on the most valuable and beneficial service projects to be pursued/completed by the chapter.
  • Operate and coordinate the service projects in action.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Coordinate and operate social events for Chapter members, as deemed necessary/appropriate by the chapter officer team and/or chapter advisor.
  •  Ensure the chapter and chapter officers participate in regional PTK activities as deemed necessary to reach the Three Star Level of chapter recognition.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Make a report of finances at each business meeting.
  • As requested, research, report, and advise the chapter officers/leadership team and chapter advisor regarding chapter finances, potential expenditures, and all other financial related areas.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Take and read minutes of meetings.
  • Maintain records of the meetings.
  • Assist President in creating Officer team meeting agendas and Chapter meeting agendas.
  • Ensure chapter/chapter officer participation on an international level, as needed for Five Star Level chapter recognition.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Create editions of the chapter newsletter to be distributed both virtual and physically.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in a free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

Duties:

  • Multiple offered positions.
  • Project and initiative assistance as needed and/or requested by chapter president or chapter advisor.
  • Complete one PTK EDGE course and at least one unit of Leadership Development Studies.
  • Enroll in free OTC PTK Officer Development course each semester.

College Project

Once a year, PTK chapters and college administrators work together to find and complete a College Project. This project must work towards the advancement of the college’s mission and benefit students. The process of completing the College Project fosters student growth as both scholars and leaders, while also helping serve the college.
