Pharmacy technicians play a key role in helping pharmacists prepare and distribute prescriptions in retail, hospital, and clinical settings. You’ll learn to:

The Certified Pharmacy Technician Program prepares students to begin an entry-level career path in a variety of pharmacy environments.  Prerequisite(s): Instructor Consent.  

Course Details and Requirements
  • Can I do my clinicals on the weekends? There are no clinical hours for this program.
  • How long is this program? This program is 16 weeks (1 semester) long.
  • Are vaccines required for the program? No, because there is not a clinical component to this program.
  • Is a background check required for the program? No, because there is not a clinical component to this program. However, to obtain a job or state licensure as a pharmacy technician, you will need to complete an FBI background check and fingerprint.
  • Is a drug screen required to complete clinical? No, because there is not a clinical component to this program. You will need one for employment.
  • When does my class meet? This program is completely online. Your online class will meet on Wednesday evenings via Teams beginning at 5:30 pm central standard time.
  • What is considered passing? In order to sit for certification, you must have a minimum of 75% as a final grade.
  • What certification do I receive? You will be eligible to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (ptcb.org). Vouchers will be emailed out to the email on record after the completion of the class.
  • How do I receive my books for the class? All books are electronic and will be available on the first night of class via Canvas.
